Director of Public Relations and Social Media (Volunteer Position)
VOLUNTEER POSITION
JOB BRIEF:
Direct the media and media related activities of the organization to raise the profile of the organization and its goals and initiatives, including both traditional and social media.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop ongoing relationships with relevant media representatives at the community, regional and national levels
Proactively place media stories to raise the profile of RC and its initiatives
Respond promptly to all media inquiries
Write and disseminate all press releases for significant grants made by the organization, for institutional news, and for findings and outcomes of organization's projects
Monitor and report on developing issues, legislation and regulations that impact the organization’s area of concern (issues management, public affairs, crisis management)
Create and implement a community news strategy to raise awareness of RC and its initiatives in grassroots and community media outlets
Manage the Rayan’s Crayons social media efforts, including day-to-day leadership and implementation of organization’s social media marketing efforts, including regular updating of Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ and other RC social media
Regularly place articles about the organization's initiatives in traditional and new media
Work with the Vice President to develop media opportunities for projects and give backs
Build and implement a role for the Rayan’s Crayons as a media resource for interviews with experts on relevant issues
Maintain relationships with communications officers from other community foundations, and participating on mutually advantageous collaborations
Oversee all public relations work; provide information and ideas to firms or persons and obtain necessary approvals for all media coverage
Assist in the development of plans and policies related to public relations and social media
Perform other duties as assigned
Maintains regular attendance
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree preferred in related field
Thorough knowledge of principles of effective communications and mass media, publicity, advertising, policies, community relations, organization structure
Experience managing and using social media as a part of an overall organizational communications strategy
Understanding of social media management software, media databases, and analytics tools such as Google Analytics a plus
Ability to plan, organize, and effectively present ideas and concepts to groups
Ability to assimilate information from a variety of sources, analyze information, and recommend courses of action to be taken
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relations
Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the use of mass media
Ability to work under the pressure of tight deadlines
Ability to make decisions about how to manage and organize own workload
Participative work style; ability to give and receive feedback
Mature interpersonal style; ability to interact calmly with a diverse range of people
